Volunteer Information

Nearly 2000 volunteers contribute approximately 100,000 hours annually to make the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic a success. Thanks to their efforts, the tournament has donated nearly $44 million to local charities since its inception forty-eight years ago. As our tournament grows, the Classic continually relies on the support of new volunteers.

Volunteers will be given specific training as needed. Each receives a volunteer badge and a guest badge. During tournament week, volunteers receive coffee and rolls in the morning and a box lunch. Volunteers purchase their uniforms with the Classic logo at the tournament's cost.

The Official Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Uniforms consist of:
  • Logoed Shirt

  • Logoed Cap or Visor, compliments of the Classic

  • Logoed Jacket, Sweater, or Vest (optional)

  • Volunteer's own navy slacks

Volunteers are needed to work in the following areas:

  • Marshals: Provide crowd control. Marshals should have the physical ability to work all five days and to walk from their respective assignments. Some marshals will be asked to walk 18 holes each day for the entire five days of the tournament.
    Days needed: Jan. 15 - 20, 2008
    Hours needed: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Shotlink: Use laser equipment on fairways and greens to track and record professionals' shots. Training will be provided.
    Days needed: Jan. 15 - 20, 2008
    Hours needed: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Thru Boards/Scoreboards: Keep scores updated on boards at designated holes during play. This position does not require much walking or standing. Training will be provided.

    Hours needed: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Walking Scorers: The PGA TOUR has developed a scoring system which captures and reports information on every shot during the tournament. It will require volunteers to enter information on each shot into electronic “palm-pilots”. Training will be provided.
    Days needed: Jan. 16 - 20, 2008
    Hours needed: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m

    Hours needed: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m

  • Transportation: Volunteers transport Classic vehicles from local dealership to airport holding lot for distribution to professional contestants and assist with retrieval of vehicles after the tournament. May be requested to transport individual players and their families to and from the airport and hotels. Group begins work one week prior to the tournament. You do not need to work everyday.
    Days needed: Jan, 9 - 23, 2008
    Hours needed: vary
  • Tournament Office Support: Volunteers assist with ticket sales, phone inquiries, will call, and general office support. Volunteers are also needed to help box and wrap gifts and assist with mailings. Good telephone and "people" skills are needed. The Classic office is extremely hectic and volunteers need to be able to work independently and in an active environment.
Days needed: Begins Dec. 1, 2007, and works through the tournament.
    Hours needed: Depends on schedule
