Unique Accomplishments

1. THE HOLE-IN-ONE BONANZA

In the tournament’s earliest years, a $50,000 prize was offered for a hole-in-one during regulation play. An insurance policy to provide for such an eventuality was purchased from Lloyd’s of London. The golfers scoring aces and picking up $50,000 each were:

1960 Joe Cambell, 5th, Tamarisk CC
1961 Don January, 15th Indian Wells CC
1962 Dick Mayer, 2nd, Tamarisk CC

2. PLAYOFF HEROICS

In 1992, the Classic had its largest ever playoff - five men. Using the par five 1st and 18th holes at Bermdua Dunes CC for the playoff, John Cook prevailed but only after playing four holes of sudden death in five under par - eagling the 18th on the second go-round.

3. CONSISTENCY, CONSISTENCY

PGA TOUR records indicate that Tag Ridings is the only person in history to accomplish a unique feat. In the third round of the 2005 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, he scored two eagles and a double eagle. He finished the round with a 6-under-par 66 but failed to make the 72-hole cut.
